INTRODUCTION
CARTER CENTER FOR MUSIC EDUCATION

The Carter Center is a renovation of former industrial warehouse (later a school) for the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School. The Center's wide-ranging program includes 31 private music studios, small and large ensemble rehearsal halls, a recording studio, group keyboard studios, early childhood education classrooms, administrative offices, and a jazz, rock, and blues wing.

Precise acoustic requirements and the creative and economic use of simple materials drove this project’s design. The Carter Center is now capable of doubling the enrollment of students who participate in the Music School’s broad offerings.

The Corliss-Brackett House is a renovation of a Landmarked Italianate mansion on College Hill for use as Brown University’s Admissions Department. This project included accessibility improvements, historic preservation of the original interior detailing, and design of records storage areas. (The building is now used by other Departments.)

ALGER HALL

Alger Hall is a renovation of a mid-century classroom building at the center of RIC’s campus for the School of Management and Technology.  This project included recladding the entire building, small additions for social and meeting space for students and faculty, classroom and office space, and a new double-height multipurpose assembly hall carved out of the existing footprint of the building.

PRATT INSTITUTE MYRTLE HALL & CAMPUS CAPITAL PROJECTS

Myrtle Hall: Myrtle Hall is a LEED-gold building housing academic, administrative and gallery spaces. This project involved coordination between Pratt client departments, design architects and consultants in its design development and early construction phases, as well as the research and publication of sustainable features for Institute marketing and fundraising.

The Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center is a reuse of the mid-century dining hall at the center of URI's Kingston campus for a new recreational fitness and wellness center serving the student body. 

ANNA FASCITELLI FITNESS AND WELLNESS CENTER

 This project included two significant additions to re-orient the main entrance of the building to Butterfield Road, open exercise areas for a full range of state-of-the-art fitness equipment, a series of studios for group exercise classes, and private consultation rooms for wellness screenings. The project was designed to achieve a minimum LEED Silver designation.

URI AI LAB

University of Rhode Island

The Artificial Intelligence Lab at URI comes from a grant-funded initiative to create an AI lab focused on common access and collaboration, and is the first of its kind to be located in a US library. As part of the project’s publicity campaign, URI asked DUAL to conceptualize its new laboratory environment.
